Editor's Note: Window on the Clearwater has joined the Wednesday's Child network to help spread the word about children that are waiting for families to give them the loving care that they need. Each Wednesday we will profile a different child. For more information about Wednesday's Child and how you can be involved check the web site at: http://www.idahowednesdayschild.org/.

Desiree

Age: 13

"My name is Desiree. I love school because it keeps me busy during the winter. My favorite subject is Math, but I don't really like reading. I enjoy playing basketball outside, too. My favorite thing is listening to country music, especially Taylor Swift, but I like other artists like Carrie Underwood, too.

I love cats, and I'd like to have one someday. That's why I chose to paint a cat at Ceramica for my Wednesday's Child activity. I draw a lot, too. I like to eat most anything. Except artichokes...they're gross. But I like chicken salad and taco salad.

I like being an older sister, so if my family had younger children, I'd like that. I don't care if I have both a mother and father, or just one parent."

Desiree's caseworker describes her as easy going, happy, and a people pleaser. She is very adaptable to new situations. Though she might be a little shy at first, her personality quickly shines through. She can definitely be silly and playful. It can be contagious, too!

The adoption team is looking for either a one or two-parent family, with or without siblings. Though Desiree has always been an older sibling, she would likely do just fine with older brothers or sisters. And cats, of course! Having her own pet would be such a comfort for Desiree.

Though it's not readily apparent, Desiree has mild challenges related to Down Syndrome. She will need parent(s) who will access resources that maximize her development and assure a safe environment in which she can thrive. Desiree is on grade level in school and enjoys her classes. Having a family that encourages her continued progress could make such a difference in her life!

Desiree has a grandmother and previous foster family she really wants to stay in contact with. She also has a younger brother who has already been adopted. Continued contact with him would be preferable.

This very sweet girl is loving and very easy to be around. She has endured losses and trauma in her life, but she has also shown great courage in learning how to move forward. A loving family could help her overcome any obstacle that may come her way. It is likely that Desiree will be able to live independently as an adult, with some degree of assistance and continued family encouragement. If you think you can be the dedicated family to make this a reality in her life, call the Idaho CareLine today! Desiree could bless your family with her amazing capacity to find and embrace happiness.
