Editor's Note: Window on the Clearwater has joined the Wednesday's Child network to help spread the word about children that are waiting for families to give them the loving care that they need. Each Wednesday we will profile a different child. For more information about Wednesday's Child and how you can be involved check the web site at: http://www.idahowednesdayschild.org/.

Mattye

Age: 14

"Hi, I'm Mattye, but I go by Maddison. I am a social girl, and enjoy hanging out with my friends and talking about clothes, hair, makeup and boys. I love to be active and doing things. I like to play kick-the-can, Frisbee, and I might do track next year. I'm so excited that I made the cheer squad for next year. I hope I can find a family that is also really active and will go to my games and other events, and take me places with them. I enjoy living in the city, but am also starting to enjoy more outdoor activities, like riding horses."

"I'm really learning to like more things, try new things, and to control my anger and feelings. One way I do this it to write my feelings down when I feel like no one is listening to me. After I write down all my feelings, I put the paper in a box. It's like putting those feelings away."

"I could live in any city, but have siblings in Idaho, and it's really important to me to keep in contact with them. I would love to have a mom and dad but would also be OK with a single parent. I love little kids and would like to have a couple of brothers or sisters, just not a whole bunch of kids. I just really need to have my own room."

Maddison's social worker describes her as a pleasant young lady who is very much a princess! She is also described as dramatic, a social butterfly, and engaging.

Maddison wants a family that will support her in her interests, and help her discover new activities she may enjoy. She would do well in a family as the oldest child, and she knows she requires a lot of adult attention and interaction. She has been learning to share the spotlight with other children in her current home. Maddison responds well to positive reinforcements and praise. She will do well in a home where she knows what is expected of her, and what the consequences are for not following the rules. Sometimes she struggles with feelings of getting the short end of the stick.

A family where consistency, patience, and structure are valued is a must. Computer time is also important to Maddison, and she will work hard to earn this reward. Tutoring has helped her bring her grades back up after a brief dip. She's a bright girl who responds to positive reinforcement about educational goals.

Maddison would also benefit from having a family who can help her continue to have a positive cultural connection with her African American heritage. She is anxious to find a permanent family, and will surely blossom into a secure, responsible, loving adult with the support of the right family.
