Editor's Note: Window on the Clearwater has joined the Wednesday's Child network to help spread the word about children that are waiting for families to give them the loving care that they need. Each Wednesday we will profile a different child. For more information about Wednesday's Child and how you can be involved check the web site at: http://www.idahowednesdayschild.org/.

Brittany

Age: 12

Profile and portrait provided by A Family For Every Child.

Tierney is tall for her age; she's also inquisitive, observant and smart as a whip. Tierney is a creative and talented artist, who enjoys singing, acting, and all kinds of art. She's an affectionate and loving child, who enjoys girly things, like playing dress up and putting on a show, and she thrives on attention.

Tierney has been in and out of foster care throughout much of her life and has experienced multiple placements. She is currently in a treatment foster care placement, where she is provided regular routines, structure and predictability. Tierney attends mainstream school but will need ongoing treatment to address her past trauma and transitional issues. Tierney is developmentally on target, but has a tendency to tell stories, and can be manipulative, dramatic and stubborn. She has struggled with being "parentified' and has some difficulty just being a kid. However, she has made significant progress in the last year, and she blossoms when given praise and encouragement, along with the opportunity to express herself in healthy ways. It is recommended that Tierney be the only child or youngest (by 4+ years) in an adoptive family.

Tierney has two younger siblings, who are in separate placements, but with whom she has ongoing contact. Tierney loves her sister and brother and visits with them on occasion. Tierney will be counting on her adoptive parents to help her maintain contact with her siblings.

With a patient and understanding family, who can support her, Tierney can continue to grow and progress. She needs a family who can be firm but sensitive; who can keep her manipulation in check with reassurance, redirection and realistic boundaries. Tierney will need to be provided with opportunities and activities as an outlet for her imagination and talent. She presents with a number of challenging behaviors, therefore, it is important that the adoptive resource (s) have the skills necessary to manage Tierney effectively. The adoptive family will need to commit, not only to Tierney, but also to her ongoing treatment needs. Could you be the family Tierney is looking for?
