Editor's Note: Window on the Clearwater has joined the Wednesday's Child network to help spread the word about children that are waiting for families to give them the loving care that they need. Izaiah

Izaiah

Age: 6

Portrait provided by Oregon Heart Gallery. Profile provided by NWAE (Northwest Adoption Exchange).

Izaiah is a delightful little boy who loves interacting with adults and climbing up onto a lap for some one-on-one time. His favorite cartoons are Diego and Dora the Explorer; in fact, he takes his Diego with him everywhere he goes! A love of numbers and counting on fingers or clocks can keep him busy for a short time until he is on to something else, such as playing with blocks, putting together puzzles, or drawing with markers. He is a child with a love for the outdoors and will take any opportunity to go for walks or play at the park. He is simply a joy to be around!

Izaiah has been in a stable foster home for almost his entire year in foster care. As a toddler, he had connections with his three older siblings, but Izaiah has not seen them for quite some time. His adoption team hopes for some form of connection with siblings and some degree of mediated openness with grandparents and his birth mom.

Izaiah has a diagnosis of Autism. His motor skills as well as language skills are delayed. Izaiah will sometimes use vocalizations or go to adults and point or take them to where he wants to go. Although he makes limited eye contact, he will make eye contact when he needs or wants something. He will flap his hands, run in circles, and make a clicking sound when he is excited. He is a busy little guy who needs constant supervision to ensure his safety. He can be sensitive to loud noises and will often cover his ears. He is easily redirected when he has a tantrum, which only lasts for a few minutes. He can be sensitive to touch and does not like certain clothes on his skin. Tags need to be removed from his clothing because of this sensitivity.

Izaiah currently receives speech therapy and will continue to need assistance in this area, as well as educational assistance for many years. Izaiah will do best in a home where there are no other children or siblings are much older than him. He will need a couple or single parent with knowledge and access to services for a child with global developmental delays and Autism. For such committed, realistic parents, this little Diego character will bring satisfaction and joy as he shares his discovery adventures with you!
