Kolton

Ages: 13

"My name is Kolton and I will be 13 this year. I am funny and enjoy a good joke. I need a family who can understand my sense of humor. I sometimes make jokes when I'm uncomfortable or when I'm showing off for new people. I need a family who makes me smile everyday. I would like a family who enjoys the same activities I do. I love to play and watch sports. Baseball and football are my favorite sports and I would like to play professional football someday. I also like to watch college and professional baseball and football on television.

I want a family to adopt me because someone needs to take care of me. I want them to teach me how to live in a family and how to have boundaries with others. Sometimes, I need to be held accountable for my behaviors when they get out of hand. I have a hard time listening and need help making good choices. I get good grades at school and my favorite subject is math. However, I still want to play professional football when I grow up."

The minute you meet this young man it is apparent that he is outgoing and enjoys being active. Kolton, like many children in the foster care system, has been disappointed many times in his young life. He shows resiliency and adaptability by remaining optimistic about finding a "forever family".

Kolton's adoptive family will need to allow him time to transition out of his foster care placement and into their home. Needed skills to effectively parent Kolton are objectiveness, patience, good boundaries, clear communication, non-reactivity and no preconceived expectations about this child before he enters your home. A parent who can provide fair and consistent rules would be a great fit for Kolton. Allowing contact with Kolton's brother and his current foster family would be essential for a positive adoption selection for this child. Kolton would benefit from a family with older siblings or from being an only child. Kolton thrives on attention but at times, has challenges with sharing the spotlight.
