Editor's Note: Window on the Clearwater has joined the Wednesday's Child network to help spread the word about children that are waiting for families to give them the loving care that they need. Each Wednesday we will profile a different child. For more information about Wednesday's Child and how you can be involved check the web site at: http://www.idahowednesdayschild.org/.

Faith

Ages: 5

Four and a half year old Faith is an energetic, sweet girl who loves an adventure! Playing at the park, painting, making music with drumsticks, and basketball are just a few of Faith's favorite things to do. Faith took her first plane ride recently and even loved the turbulence, squealing with delight at every bump and movement. Her laughter and enthusiasm for life are contagious.

Faith's worker describes her as being a compassionate, happy, and polite little girl. She is sensitive to other's feelings and needs. She is also quick to say please and thank you. Faith's challenges and trauma in her early life have impacted her development, but not her loveable personality.

Faith is currently receiving specialized services in an early intervention preschool. She has some speech delay, as well as some cognitive delay. She has done remarkably well, though, in her structured classroom. Her teacher reports that Faith is able to follow multi-step instructions and can complete the tasks that are given her with few verbal prompts. She knows her colors, shapes, her ABCs and is learning to count. Faith will do best in a two-parent home where there are other children who can model appropriate behaviors.

This sweet girl loves children and is very social. She will need a family that is very patient, creative, and familiar with resources available for children with cognitive delays. While Faith will likely always need outside services, her progress so far has astounded the professionals working with her. She is a little girl who is able to bond to caregivers. She has strong attachments to her foster mom and will need to continue some contact with her, as well as an older brother who is in an adoptive home already.
