Editor's Note: Window on the Clearwater has joined the Wednesday's Child network to help spread the word about children that are waiting for families to give them the loving care that they need. Each Wednesday we will profile a different child. For more information about Wednesday's Child and how you can be involved check the web site at:

Ages: 9

"Hi, my name is Estaban. When I grow up I want to be a football player and a Geologist. I like school and learning about Idaho History. Math and Science are my favorite subjects, but I also like Music, PE, Art and Reading. I really like football, especially the BSU Broncos and the Dallas Cowboys. I want to play football at Boise State. At recess I usually just play football. I always play quarterback and linebacker.

I like to draw, and I'm a really good drawer. I like to sing, and I'm trying to get some lessons for musical instruments, like the guitar.

Adoption means that sometimes you don't get your parents back and you get a new family. I think adoption is cool and it's really awesome to get a new family. I really want a family who is a Boise State fan or a Cowboys fan. I don't really care who they like, just if they like football and are sporty. I also hope that they will let me draw a lot. I want a mom and a dad, and I want to be in the middle so I have older and younger brothers and sisters. I would like to have a German Sheppard for a pet because they are really good guard dogs. They would guard me from danger, but they wouldn't guard me from good people."

"I want a mom who is cool, and that means she is nice and has experience taking care of kids." When asked what kind of a dad he wants, Estaban promptly replied, "That's easy! I want a dad who is sporty and knows a lot about football and will do a lot of stuff with me."

Estaban's adoption worker stated that Estaban is a sweet young man with many interests and talents. He likes to play many sports, like soccer, basketball, and baseball, but football is his passion. He is good at drawing, is helpful, does chores sometimes without being asked, and can be good with younger kids. He likes school and has won an award at school for perfect attendance and good behavior.

He has made tremendous progress in his current foster placement and will need a family who will continue to provide him with structure, clear expectations, and comfortable routines. Estaban also does well will consistent consequences and rewards. He will need a two-parent family, and while Estaban wants to be a middle child, the preference from the adoption team is for Estaban to be the youngest child. He will also need parents who are knowledgeable about ADHD, how to manage oppositional behaviors, and who understand issues of grief, loss, and childhood trauma. They will be expected to locate and access professional resources in their community such as PSR services, family and individual counseling services, and any other services that Estaban might need to successfully transition into a permanent family.

Estaban's excitement about his day at Wednesday's Child was evident throughout the day. He was about to meet some of his heroes, the BSU football players. But as much as Estaban admires these football players, he knows the real heroes are the mom and dad out there who will make him their own. This became very clear when Estaban was asked, 'What's one thing that makes you happy?' He did not hesitate in his response, "Having a family!" When he was asked, 'What's something that makes you sad?' He was again sure of his answer, "Not having a family!" If you think you can make this young man's dreams come true by being that family he longs for, his adoption team wants to hear from you.
