Ray Norton, Ryan Smathers and Jo McGill are the winners! Kathy (now Hanson)and Cindy (now Freeman) Clay are the answer for Week 62 of Orofino History Trivia, a special feature to celebrate the history and heritage of Clearwater Country. According to their father, Roy, Kathy and Cindy Clay grew up liking the usual things that girls in the 1950s and 1960s did like dolls, riding bicycles and such. Some of Kathy's and Cindy's early memories are of helping their parents with the chores at the Ponderosa Restaurant after it was purchased in 1957. They also helped watch their brother, Mike. The Clay family took trips to California to visit extended family and their aunt nicknamed the girls, Blossom and Sapphire, because they did all the dishes. Dishes were one of their chores at the restaurant. They also remember spending lots of time with their grandpa. He took them downtown to the sports shop and they remember sitting in the car eating the ice cream he purchased there. As Kathy and Cindy grew, they became friends and they still are. Kathy now works for the Programs Office of Joint School District #171 and Cindy for American West Bank. Monday: The smaller child is the same in both photos.
