Monday: Good and bad Tuesday: A well known character Wednesday: Sometimes a trickster Thursday: Sometimes a hero Friday: Legends Saturday: Nez Perce stories Coyote is a frequent character in Nez Perce or Nimiipuu stories and legends used to teach children. He was a teacher, trickster or hero depending on the particular story. Traditionally, these stories were told by elders in the winter time to their families. They taught children about the landforms that surrounded their homeland and helped them learn their language, history and culture. One of the most known is the legend of how Coyote created the Nimiipuu from the blood of a monster. That particular story is linked to the Heart of the Monster historical site off U.S. Highway 12 at Kamiah.
