Lewis Clark Baseball League is the answer for Week 393 of Orofino History Trivia a special feature to celebrate the history and heritage of Clearwater Country. Join in the discovery! Monday: Monk Montgomery and Jim Bessent Tuesday: Involved sports equipment Wednesday: Larry Roby and Les Ponozzo Thursday: Faithful fans Friday: Orofino pulled out in 1960. Saturday: Hans Wetter was president for a time. Monday: Named for famous explorers Orofino and other surrounding towns such as Weippe and Pierce fielded teams that competed in the Lewis Clark Baseball League. Artifacts at the Clearwater Historical Museum show team rosters and such for Orofino adult men's teams as early as 1954. Those involved included Monk Montgomery, Jim Bessent, Larry Roby, Les Ponozzo, Roger Williams and Hans Wetter. There were divisions according to locality. Hans Wetter was president of the league of a time, but resigned in 1960 when Orofino decided not to have a team any longer. Orofino pulled out when Wayne Zipse joined the army for three years and they were not able to field a team. They forfeited their final game to Greencreek and returned the fees that had been submitted by the teams on their schedule for any future games. Sponsored by:
