Join in the discovery! Monday: He wasn't widely known then. Tuesday: It was a temporary job. Wednesday: Camp J James Arness of Gunsmoke fame worked one summer for the Clearwater Timber Protective Association when he was 18 or 19 years old. According to a letter he sent Adrian Nelson March 30, 1965, Arness worked at Camp J north of Headquarters during the summer of 1942. He particularly remembered Saturday nights in Orofino. "I particularly remember the Saturday nights we spent in Orofino. I think the memory of those Saturday nights is about as close to Dodge City as you could get in modern times," a portion of the letter says.
