Join in the discovery! Monday: They had to go through it to join. Tuesday: The organization had more than a social component. Wednesday: This initiation was mostly a tease. Thursday: It had a special name. Friday: They were asked questions. Saturday: The organization protects life and property. Monday: Now, new members receive a lot of training instead of being initiated. Tuesday: The organization celebrates its 100th Anniversary this year. Wednesday: It was in Orofino. In the early days of the Orofino Fire Department, new members went through an initiation called 'Tom Toolin'. Not much is known now of what actually happened during the initiation. It was before former fire chief Elbert Snyder time, but he was told it was more of a tease than anything. Those being initiated were given seats and then asked questions. An electrical coil in the seats buzzed them and caused them to stand up at times during the questioning that they normally would not have.
