Monday: An anchor in the community Tuesday: It had variety. Wednesday: Gun, ammo, tools, hardware, furniture, etc. Ouds Shield Hardware was in the Jones building in the 200 block on Johnson Ave. in Orofino. It was originally opened by John Oud prior to 1915. Later his son, Bob took over the business. It stocked hardware, furniture, tools and a variety of other items. Cliff Anderson said he remembers it was in the street in front of Ouds that he saw his first chopping contest. It was sponsored by Plumb Ax Co. Phil Johnston said the store was an anchor in the downtown business area. It was sold to a Mr. Abrams from Kendrick and it wasn't too long before it closed. That was sometime in the 1980s.
