\Chief Twisted Hair of the Nez Perce\ was one of the leaders that Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery relied on to teach them how to build the canoes that would take them from what is now Orofino to the Pacific Ocean. He also kept their horses while they traveled to the Pacific. He memorialized with a sculpture on the bank of the Clearwater River at Lewis Clark Crossing.
