Monday: Bedrock Tuesday: Concrete Wednesday: Steel Thursday: New beside old Orofino's first bridge across the Clearwater River was built in 1911 when roads on the south side of the river were rough or non-existent going up or down river very far. The first bridge was located downstream from the present one about even with Orofino Builders Supply. Remnants can be seen at low water levels. Orofino's second bridge was built in 1939, upstream from the first bridge and while it was still standing. Most people who were in town before it was dismantled remember its overhead steel structure that was typical of older bridges. Just as the second bridge was built while the first stood, the third bridge was completed before the second was dismantled. The third bridge was built in 1999 and will be 10 years old this year. Prior to bridges, there was a ferry across the Clearwater at Orofino.Sponsored by:
