Saturday: Now people can carry similar devices in their pocket In 1902, Samson Snyder, the son of a pioneering Weippe family, built the first telephone line in Clearwater County from Weippe to Greer. In 1908, he continued that line from Greer to Orofino. In 1923, he sold the line to Interstate Telephone Company and by 1926 they converted the exchange to a dial system that was the first in Idaho.
