The Corps of Discovery when they reached the Weippe/Orofino area in September 1805 is the answer for Week 175 of Orofino History Trivia a special feature to celebrate the history and heritage of Clearwater Country. Join in the discovery! Monday: Fish Tuesday: They were sick There were hungry times for the Corps of Discovery as the travelled over the mountains into the Weippe/Orofino area in September 1805 because their hunters were having trouble finding game enough to feed the party. The members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition were greeted and fed by the Nez Perce Indians. The diet of fish, camas and berries caused the men to be ill because they were not used to it. However, they continued with the work of building canoes that would take them the rest of the way to the Pacific Ocean. Sponsored by: | |
