ISP investigating head-on fatality accident near Viola

VIOLA -- Idaho State Police is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash which occurred Aug. 7 at about 7:54 p.m. on US Highway 95 near milepost 353 in Latah County.

A 36-year-old man from Moscow was driving a silver 2007 Kia Rio northbound on US 95 when the vehicle crossed left of center and collided head-on with a southbound traveling white 2014 Honda Accord. The white Honda was driven by a 19-year-old female from Palouse, Wash., ISP reported. It is unknown if the driver of the Kia was wearing a seatbelt, the driver of the Honda was wearing a seatbelt. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance. The driver of the Kia succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Next of kin has been notified, according to ISP.

Both lanes of travel on US 95 were intermittently blocked for about three hours.

The crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
