Fatal off-road vehicle accident near Pierce under investigation

An off-road accident near Pierce is under investigation by the Clearwater County Sheriff's Office.

On Friday, at about 1:17 p.m., Clearwater County Sheriff's Office received a report of an off-road vehicle accident near mile marker 2 on Hemlock Butte Road, outside of Pierce.

The reporting party advised that an off-road vehicle carrying two occupants had been involved in a crash and that one of the occupants was unconscious.

First to arrive on scene was an Idaho Department of Fish and Game Conservation Officer, followed by personnel from the Clearwater County Sheriff's Office, Pierce Ambulance, Timberline Rescue, and Life Flight.

"It is with great sadness that the Clearwater County Sheriff's Office announces that one adult male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second occupant did not require transport by ground ambulance or Life Flight," said a CCSO news release.

The circumstances surrounding this accident remain under investigation by the Clearwater County Sheriff's Office. No additional information is being released currently out of respect for the family and to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

Please wear all recommended protective equipment, operate vehicles responsibly, and exercise caution while enjoying the outdoors. Taking these simple precautions can help prevent tragedies such as this," said Clearwater County John Smith.
