A 'crows nest' structure was built there in 1915 and a platform tower in 1927.Those structures are now gone. The creek of the same name, Silver Creek, rises west of Silver Butte and flows 5 miles southwest and 4 miles northwest into Dworshak Reservoir. Though no silver was ever found there, the butte and creek were named for their appearance. During the winter, the snow shines through a hole in the timber looking like silver. It is 3.5 miles from Bertha Hill, 0.8 miles from Old Camp 6 and 18 miles from Elk River.
