One injured in head-on crash on US 12 near Greer; highway closed for 3.5 hours

One person was injured in a two-vehicle head-on crash that closed U.S. Highway 12 for several hours at mile marker 51 west of Greer Saturday, according to Idaho State Police.

ISP responded to the two-vehicle collision that occurred just before 7:51 p.m. in Lewis County. A 61-year-old man, from Moscow was driving a yellow 2023 Ford Transit van, westbound on US12, when the vehicle reportedly drifted across the center line. A 46-year-old man from Victor, Mont., was driving a white 2020 Kenworth, and was traveling eastbound on US12. The two vehicles collided head-on in the eastbound lane of travel, ISP reported.

The 61-year-old was transported by ground ambulance to the local hospital. Evidence at the scene indicated both drivers had been wearing their seatbelts. The impact between the two vehicles caused the diesel tank on the Kenworth to rupture, and approximately 100 gallons of diesel spilled on the roadway. The highway was completely blocked for 3.5 hours, ISP said.
