National Weather Service issues Winter Storm Warning, Winter Weather Advisory

National Weather Service -Missoula has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Northern and Southern Clearwater Mountains and a Winter Weather Advisory for the Orofino/Grangeville region from 4 a.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Friday Pacific Time.

Winter Storm Warning

Winter Storm Warning forecast include heavy mixed precipitation with total snow accumulations of 10 to 20 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Areas of particular impact are Elk River, Idaho Highway 11 Pierce to Headquarters, Pierce, US Highway 12 Lowell to Lolo Pass, Dixie and Elk City.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

Wednesday, snow if forecast with new accumulations of 1 to 2 inches possible. Wednesday night, calm wind is expected and new snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are possible.

Thursday, snow could be heavy at times. The wind is forecast to be calm and new snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches is possible. Thursday night, snow is forecast mainly before 4 a.m. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches is possible.

Friday, there is a 40% chance of snow before 10 a.m., along with patchy fog. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible.

Winter Weather Advisory

Blowing snow and then snow is expected. Blowing and drifting snow on the Camas Prairie Wednesday with new snow starting Thursday morning is forecast. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches are possible.

Of particular concern are Greer Grade, Camas Prairie, Grangeville and vicinity.

Orofino, elevation 1,040 feet above sea level

Wednesday, snow is forecast before 11 a.m., then rain and snow between 11 a.m. and noon, then rain after noon. Snow level is expected to rise to 2,800 feet in the afternoon. New snow accumulation of less than half an inch is possible. Wednesday night, Snow level will be at 2,400 feet with an 80% chance of precipitation. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Thursday, rain and snow is forecast becoming all snow after 2 p.m. Snow level is expected to be at 1,500 feet. Chance of precipitation is 80% with new snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. Thursday night, snow is likely, mainly before 11 p.m. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible.

Friday, there is a 30% chance of snow before 11 a.m. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
