Timberline School closed until Sept. 13 due to increasing COVID-19 cases

Timberline School Principal Jason Hunter issued the following letter concerning the closure of the school due to increasing COVID-19 cases:

Dear Families,

Timberline is seeing an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases and quarantines for students and staff. In particular, Wednesday and Thursday of last week we had several positive cases at school including two staff members. We currently have 7 staff members out on quarantine including a bus driver, custodian, teachers, and para-professionals. We have 43 students out on quarantine and an unknown number of students and staff who may have been exposed last week to unknown positive individuals.

It is extremely difficult to accurately trace and assess the levels of close contact that each of these individuals may have had with other staff and students.

As we navigate through this pandemic, we are continuing to learn and adjust as necessary to provide a safe learning environment for our students and a safe work environment for our staff. As a result, we have decided to temporarily close school.

There will be no school for students in grades k-12 and no student activities or practices from 9/7/21-9/12/21. School will resume in person on 9/13/21.

Due to the holiday weekend this will allow students and staff to have 10 days of no contact with each other prior to returning on 9/13/21. I am hopeful that these three days of school closure combined with the holiday and weekends will effectively push the reset button on COVID-19 infections and associated quarantines. We will ensure the building is disinfected and ready for school to resume on 9/13/21.

NOTE: If you are currently on quarantine that extends past 9/13/21 follow through with your quarantine and return when your quarantine ends.

If your child develops symptoms consistent with COVID-19:

  • Continue to keep your child home from school and avoid other activities around other people.
  • Seek medical advice from your doctor regarding recommendations for testing
  • Notify the school

During this short emergency closure, there will be no online school. Teachers will not be assigning work or providing instruction.

NO SCHOOL 9/7/21, 9/8/21, 9/9/21
SCHOOL RECONVENES 9/13/21

Sincerely,
Jason E. Hunter
Principal
