Grasshopper Creek is in the southeast part of Clearwater County and flows nine miles into Jim Ford Creek. It was named for 'Grasshopper' Jim Clarke who had a chicken ranch near the creek about four miles out of Weippe. He used to trap grasshoppers and crickets, kill them and then feed them to his chickens. He sold fresh produce and poultry to the miners.
