School trustees vote to move Orofino schools to 'Yellow Phase'

by Dr. Michael C. Garrett, Superintendent Joint School District #171

Last (Tuesday) night the board voted to continue the online learning for Orofino Junior/Senior High School through this week.

Next week, beginning Sept. 14, OJSH and Orofino Elementary School will move into the Yellow Phase (as recommended by Public Health). The major changes are that we offer online opportunities for those who are quarantined or out ill. Along with this comes masking requirements throughout the schools and on buses where distancing is not possible or difficult to maintain. OJSHS will also follow the yellow phase guidelines for activities as set forth by Idaho High School Activities Association.

I hope this clarifies a few areas of concern. As usual, I will work to make sure everyone is on the same page and we continue to create and maintain an environment that is rich in learning as well as being safe as possible.

Editor addition:

The board is continuing to work together, though they have differing ideas and opinions in regard to some issues.

Garrett also said they cannot reveal anything with COVID-19 cases that is an identifier. They share as much information as possible within the constraints of privacy.
