Eldorado Creek was called Fish Creek by Lewis and Clark who saw large fish in it, but had little success catching them. Miners named it, but it produced little gold compared to the great riches the name usually describes, according Ralph Space's book, The Clearwater Story: History of the Clearwater National Forest.

The creek, trail and roadless area with the same name are on the Lochsa/Powell Ranger District. about 50 miles slightly southeast of Orofino.
