Miners named it, but it produced little gold compared to the great riches the name usually describes, according Ralph Space's book, The Clearwater Story: History of the Clearwater National Forest.
The creek, trail and roadless area with the same name are on the Lochsa/Powell Ranger District. about 50 miles slightly southeast of Orofino.
