Editor's Note: Window on the Clearwater has joined the Wednesday's Child network to help spread the word about children that are waiting for families to give them the loving care that they need. Each Wednesday we will profile a different child. For more information about Wednesday's Child and how you can be involved check the web site at: http://www.idahowednesdayschild.org/.

James

Ages: 15

Profile provided by NWAE.

Patient, kindhearted, and tremendously resilient, James is eager to find a welcoming forever family. James has a sensitive side and is devoted to people who have touched his life in a positive way.

James loves to play outside and to decipher video games. He enjoys gardening and the collaborative effort of working alongside his foster parents on a multitude of tasks. He has recently taken up fishing and loves to spend time in the outdoors. James has said that he would love to have a mom and dad who he could play games with, particularly to throw a ball with or participate in other active, outside activities.

James has experienced a lot of traumatic loss in his life. While he is now living in Oregon, his roots actually lie in Oklahoma. There is a great deal of James' past that is unknown. However it is suspected that he experienced a lot of turmoil, neglect, and possible abuse as a young child. Fortunately, he has also had the benefit of recent stability and has been in his current home for several years.

Academically, James struggles to meet his grade level expectations and experiences some difficulty in school. James is receiving support in school to help him stay focused. He is able to attend school in a modified classroom and has been provided with a one-on-one companion for additional support. James' prospective adoptive family will need to work closely with the school and with community providers to make sure that he is receiving all the services he needs and deserves. He needs an advocate who believes in him, sees that he is capable of great progress and has a lot of potential to unfold.

James has a sister, Cheyenne (see C9003), who is being matched separately. James and Cheyenne are very close and bonded. Being the older of the two, James has been a great big brother and is very patient with her. It is now the plan that these two will find individual adoptive placements, but that are relatively close together in proximity so that they can continue to remain connected.

Besides Cheyenne, James has no known biological or adoptive family members that he would benefit from continuing a relationship with. James has developed a very strong bond with his foster family and it would be beneficial for him to keep this connection and relationship even after he is adopted. James is legally free to be adopted.

James does have some special needs and delays but has a generally resilient and positive attitude. In the past, James struggled more with some of his emotions. His current foster family implements patience and structure, which James has responded very well to. James still needs reminders and support to stay on track, take care of himself and to make healthy food choices. With adult assistance and guidance, James does much better with these tasks.

Socially, James can struggle with making and maintaining friendships at school and in the community, although he wants and enjoys peer relationships. James would benefit from healthy family interactions and community activities to help expose him to positive role modeling and other peers with similar interests.

James would do best in an experienced two parent home, however many family structures will be explored and considered. A slow and thoughtful transition would be very beneficial for James, who is a bit hesitant regarding the idea of adoption because he knows that it means saying goodbye to his current caregivers. James needs, and deserves, a family that can offer permanency, stability, consistency, and most importantly, unconditional love.

To find out more about James, adoption or becoming a foster parent, email the Idaho CareLine (Please include your zip code and city.) or call 1-800-926-2588. James is available for adoption through the State of Oregon.
