Editor's Note: Window on the Clearwater has joined the Wednesday's Child network to help spread the word about children that are waiting for families to give them the loving care that they need. Each Wednesday we will profile a different child. For more information about Wednesday's Child and how you can be involved check the web site at: http://www.idahowednesdayschild.org/.

Alaysa

Ages: 11

"My name is Alaysa. It's pronounced A-lay-sha, but my friends call me Aly. I love to dance and sing, swim, play basketball and tennis and roller blade. I like Wahooz, especially the bumper boats and go-carts. I like art and all kinds of music. I'm good in math and science in school. I'm learning about life cycles of insects. I might like to be a teacher someday.

My friends would describe me as someone who is friendly and nice and likes to tell jokes.

I would like to be able to call and write my aunts. I might like to visit Kentucky and Indiana some day because I have relatives there.

When I'm a mom I would be a fun mom. I would love my children and take care of them."

Alaysa is a beautiful girl of African-American heritage. Her hazel eyes sometimes hold a sparkle of mischief and other times disconnection. She can be sweet and engaging when she is feeling secure.

Alaysa is very active and on the go. She also likes to compete in sports. Last summer she was able to ride horses and would love to have more equestrian opportunities. She would like to have a family that enjoys an active lifestyle and enjoy supporting their child(ren) in after school sports.

Alaysa could do well as an only child or with much older siblings. She will connect best with a parent who can delay her need for validation or gratification. That may mean banking lots of trust and dependability before Aly can respond to you as someone who is a safe promise keeper. She has experienced deep grief and loss--more than a child should. Are you able to model the coping skills Aly needs to survive emotional storms and inexplicable things that may trigger fears? Can you become a knowledgeable advocate at school and within the community as you access whatever services might be needed? Do you have extreme patience and an ability to regulate your own emotions during difficult days?

Alaysa's permanency team will be looking for a stable couple or single mom that has experience and knowledge when it comes to responding to children who have experienced trauma. If you have a calm, structured routine in your home and are willing to learn how to be attuned to Aly's unique needs, you may have the parenting skill set that could help her view her world differently--a safe, nurturing place filled with limitless possibilities. Alaysa may even decide you are a trusted parent, worthy of calling her "Aly."
