The Orofino Commercial Club was founded in the late 1890s and beside promoting business, they were quite involved in community development and political issues of the day. John Werner found the historical news article from the Orofino Tribune online that talks about their involvement in promoting a split from Nez Perce County. Among other things, they also promoted building a new steel bridge with sidewalks on Johnson Ave. across Orofino Creek. John Mix, AE Holmberg, Pitt McRoberts, HL 'Harry' Walrath, PH Blake, EN Brown, WC Foresman and others were involved in the club.

**Furtner research at the Clearwater Historical Museum has shown that it was the Orofino Improvement Co. that had an office in the Burns Building rather than the Commercial Club.
