Isaiah

Age: 16

"Hi, I'm Isaiah. I love sports. I love playing basketball and football. My favorite team is the Seattle Seahawks. I wish I could live near a big city, like Boise, where I can go to college and professional games. I also like being outside. I want to be able to go hunting one day.

My wish for a family is to have a mom and a dad. I also want brothers and sisters. I don't want to be an only child. I would also love to have a grandma and a grandpa."

Isaiah is a fun kid, who enjoys laughter and playful, carefree adults. When he's with patient people who are willing to adapt to him, rather than the other way around, he is friendly and lovable. When he is frustrated, he needs calm, centered caregivers who do not keep behavior scores. Each day must be a fresh slate on which Isaiah can make some positive marks.

Challenged by attention and cognitive delays, Isaiah has to work extra hard to adjust to changes or distractions. Isaiah's permanency team is looking for an adoptive couple who have had previous successes working with behavioral special needs.

With a lot of positive feedback and increased levels of structure Isaiah could feel a greater sense of being in sync with his world. His enthusiasm for sports and competition would be a shoe-in for someone who has coached or counseled children who have difficulty ordering or managing their environment.

Isaiah does not usually pick up on nonverbal cues. Clear explanations and patience work wonders with this likable boy. Multiple moves in foster care have added to his frustration that things are not working for him. If you are someone who will focus on areas of strength and help him know there are many things he's good at, Isaiah will reward you with his famous smile--maybe even a hug.

Isaiah's adoption team is looking for a two-parent family that is physically active. His family will need to either be familiar with attachment issues or willing to learn uncommon strategies. Medication management and access to counseling as well as educational and community supports will ensure that he maximizes opportunities for success.

Isaiah's laughter and wonderful sense of humor will quickly endear him to your family. If you love giving playful attention and look forward to guiding a young person into adulthood, you might be the right match for Isaiah.
