A shivaree is a celebration of a marriage that was popular in earlier days. Often the couple being shivareed was more harassed and teased than anything. Sometimes the bride and groom were kidnapped by friends of the same gender and taken to different place for the activities. The celebrations were often noisy and raucous, but usually in good fun.
